Som Tam the papaya salad recipe of our Episode 1 of the Holi Hub Podcast
Som Tam or better known as, Healthy Thai, Green Papaya Salad. A delicious, fresh, raw, Thai Som Tam. In just 10 minutes you can make this beautiful salad. Enjoy all the flavours of Thailand in this bowl of goodness.
Som Tam is a favorite thai dish and these days you will find it all over Thailand and the world.
Ingredients
400 g Green Papaya
100 g Carrots
100 g Green beans
100 g Tomato - cherry
4 each Red chili - Thai
4 each Garlic cloves
4 each Lime to taste
20 g Coconut Sugar or Maple Syrup (100%) to taste
20 g Soy sauce
Alternative to Soy Sauce:
A popular soy-free, gluten-free, and vegan soy sauce alternative is coconut aminos sauce, made by Coconut Secret. This sauce comes from the sap of coconut trees and is made with Gran Molucas sea salt, cultivated in the Philippines.
20 g Tamarind paste optional if you’re not allergic
60 g Peanuts
Instruction
Assemble all the ingredients
Peel papaya and carrot
cut papaya and carrot into short thin stripes. Slice green beans, cut cherry tomato in half.
Add garlic and chili to mixing bowl - crush together.
Add cocnut sugar (maple syrup) lime juice, tamarind paste and coconut (soy) sauce to the mixing bowl and mix together well.
Add the green beans, green papaya and carrot - mix well.
Check the seasoning and adjust sweetness, sourness, saltiness or spicyness as you like.
Note:
If you cannot source green papaya, you can use turnip, radish or carrots.
