The lunar eclipse in Scorpio of 2023 has big releasing energy around it. Scorpio loves an ending and this eclipse also marks a fairly dramatic — and potent — closure in general and to eclipse season. Learn how and where it will show up for you in this blog post and on the Holi Hub podcast (german).
On May 5th, the Taurus Sun and Scorpio Moon will face each other at 7:34 pm at 14° 58’, creating the powerful dynamic shift of the luna eclipse. And as if that wasn't enough, we’re in the midst of mercury retrograde, which pluto joined recently.
How are we all hanging in between this eclipse portal?!, remember two weeks ago we started this eclipse season with the solar eclipse in Aries and now we are wrapping it up with the luna eclipse in scorpio. Not to say that this has been an intense and wild ride for many of us and maybe even dramatic as well. Eclipses come with a chaotic note and are very fateful life events.
The Luna Eclipse in Scorpio
Solar and lunar eclipses always come together, with about two weeks between them. Since the solar one is always on a new moon and the lunar is always on a Full Moon, they straddle the fortnight between the two events.
Eclipses signify significant periods of change and transformation. These shifts do not take place all at once, though. They may start or continue on an eclipse, but their work continues throughout the period that eclipses are occurring in the same set of signs. Meaning, what occurs on this eclipse may be a continuation of events that occurred last fall or even last year at this time. A lunar eclipse is an opportunity to create significant change in your life. This change may come about abruptly, as lunar eclipses tend to bring information to you from out of the blue. You may find yourself feeling surprised or even caught off guard at some of the things you learn about others and yourself over a lunar eclipse. Not all of this information is negative. Some of it is positive and may even bring you inspiration, along with encouragement to shift your life.The lunar eclipse and the month that follows it is an opportunity to detach from energies, emotions, and even people who do not serve your evolution. These changes can feel scary and uncomfortable, but once you cross the bridge to another way of being, you will feel as if you've broken through a wall built between you and your highest visions.
Scorpio
Scorpio is one of the most transformative signs of the zodiac.
Ruled by water and the planet Pluto, Scorpio asks us to confront our deepest emotions. In doing so, Scorpio reminds us that we are magicians and healers. We can transform any energy, emotion, or behavior. We can turn darkness into light, and tension into relaxation. We can heal from the most painful wounds, turning them into wisdom, and we can navigate any storm with ease. The key in working with this energy is to be willing to feel. This eclipse asks us to put our logical mind at bay. It reminds us that when we analyze our feelings, we only prolong them. We need to feel to transform, and that means slowing down, courageously looking inward, crying, and holding space for any energy to rise from our subconscious.
While the Moon is in Scorpio, the Sun remains in Taurus, bringing us both of their energies to work with this Full Moon. Scorpio and Taurus stand in opposition in the sky and on the zodiac wheel. They both, though, ask us to do the same thing: ground our energy in the present moment.
This Full Moon will likely bring us the intensely transformational events that are the hallmark of eclipses, and thus open up a unique window into the hidden depths of our emotional and psychological landscape. This Full Moon with the Sun opposite in Taurus, representing the culmination of a potent lunation cycle that began in mid-April. The activation of the Taurus-Scorpio axis beckons our awareness to the depths of mystical experience and our internal psychic landscapes, yet also into greater contact with the more tangible dimension of embodiment, material security, and physical environment. By the very nature of the sign of Scorpio, this intense eclipse energy can offer us insight into the intertwined and corollary nature of our inner and outer worlds. Because Trickster Uranus is heavily involved, as well as Mercury in retrograde, this time could be rife with unexpected twists and turns.
The Scorpio Full MOON
Full Moons are always times of big reveals and stunning conclusions, where what was once hidden comes to light. So that we can immerse ourselves like the moon in our perfect glow.
During a lunar eclipse, the shadow of the earth gets cast on the Moon by the light of the Sun. Symbolically we could interpret this as the shadow material of Uranus in Taurus being imaged and expressed in the internal psychological and emotional states of Scorpio. During this potent time, you may wish to ask yourself about how good you feel in your own skin, perhaps wondering about the energetic and psychological relationship you have with your own material vessel. Whatever arises in this area, it’s recommended to hold everything lightly and gently as the stormy energetic weather churns. It may also be helpful to remember that one way to be with the chaotic energy of Uranian signatures is this: while they tend to be confronting and uncomfortable in the moment, the awakening they bring also offers us a key to our liberation, awareness, and freedom. We might ultimately wind up closer to embodying our True Selves. This is certainly an intense passage we all find ourselves in, and, as usual, I encourage gentleness with yourself and others. This is especially true during eclipse time – to hold any difficulties with what is before you lightly, and to peacefully allow the Sacred Wisdom of life to shape, change, and re-form you. With a little extra tenderness, and a dash of trust, we may be enabled to navigate our inner and outer worlds with as much kindness, grace, and ease as possible.
This eclipse may bring intense emotions out of the blue surging to the surface that have been frozen deep down within our psyche. There is alchemy in allowing ourselves to feel what's coming up without reacting off of our emotions or attaching to the old stories. They are coming up for healing. Scorpio energy is regenerative. Some things may be coming to an ending to open up the space for something more aligned to flow in. We are also clearing out blocks to trusting our intuition and instinctual knowing to align us with our most inspired, lit up pathway forward.
I let go of all clutter in my life that holds me in the past, I transmute the old into the new.
After this lunar eclipse in Scorpio, the shadow slowly begins to loosen up again and we can feel more and more that it is slowly - but surely - getting easier again.
Important Aspects and Side Notes
With the South Node in Scorpio, we've been clearing out disempowering karmic patterns including shame programming, and with the North Node in Taurus, we are growing more beautiful versions of our lives aligned with our values as we blossom into honoring more of our self-worth.
Most notable in this eclipse is the presence of Uranus in Taurus, just four degrees away from a conjunction with the Sun and opposite and closely parallel the Moon. Uranus’ disruptive presence through the fixed earth realms of Taurus has been for months now highlighting big changes in the Taurus themes of the environment, economy, food production/distribution, and innovations in material building and construction. Uranus in Taurus also shakes up our collective attitudes towards embodiment, and bodily freedom.
Pluto, this archetype of metamorphosis and evolution is still influential, and has additionally just stationed retrograde at the beginning of the current week at 0º Aquarius! The potency of Pluto from the recent New Moon was quite apparent, and the beat goes on through the final two weeks of this rather intense lunation cycle, and then, to some extent, throughout the summer. This planet of transformation and depth is therefore still quite active, turning up the volume on major change to continue to take place in all our lives. Pluto only just recently entered Aquarius, and will be doing a back-and-forth dance between the early degrees of Aquarius and late degrees of Capricorn all the way to November of 2024. We are still in the very beginning phase of understanding how Pluto’s presence in Aquarius, for the first time in almost two hundred and fifty years, will play out. It seems that the most notable theme so far is what could become the main hallmark of Pluto in our newfound Aquarian age, the rapid evolution of technology, Frequencies, Medicine now still in its infancy. This nascent technological development is already having massive impacts on the world, perhaps signaling a new philosophical era. Pluto in Aquarius also signals, as well as technological advances of all kinds, greater tribal awareness toward all, and potentially a more humanistic approach to societal and global power structures.
Questions to Ask yourself?
Anything you can delete from your schedule should be deleted. Time is now our most important asset. Time for you and your very individual transformation journey. As we are still in the Season of Eclipses, I continue to strongly discourage conscious manifestation rituals. Also, do NOT charge your crystals or your moon water in the supposed “moonlight”! We still have the shadow all around us and we definitely don't want to charge our precious crystals and healing waters with shadow energy, right? If you have the strength, desire and muse to do so, then create a let-go ritual for yourself.

-What area of transformation is being activated in Scorpio due to this lunar eclipse?
-What may this transformation entail?
-What are my own shadows from which I can now detach myself so that I can come more and more into my own fullness?
-Where do I block or limit myself again and again and thus keep myself small?
-What situation or person has triggered an emotional response from you ?
